Rosewild: The Victor Jefferson Simpson Plantation House

Our most elegant Bed & Breakfast accommodation is Rosewild, the white-columned plantation home of Victor Jefferson Simpson whose family settled in Nacogdoches in 1827. V.J. Simpson built this architecturally impressive edifice for his bride in 1855. He was a co-signer on a $3000 note when Barret borrowed money to finance the first producing oil well drilled in Texas in 1866. It is also notable that Simpson was a second cousin of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and also of U.S. President (General) Ulysses Simpson Grant. His house was originally situated on the Simpson plantation 6 miles east of Nacogdoches on El Camino Real and was moved to the Phillips' Llano Grande Plantation in 1975 where it has been restored to its original grandeur.

The Rosewild bed & breakfast accommodations include a high-ceilinged parlor with oriental rugs and square grand piano, master bedroom, modern bathroom, dining room with crystal chandelier and fully-equipped kitchen. The master bedroom includes two antique double beds. A sleeping loft upstairs and has one double bed and a half bath. The house has central heat and air conditioning; in addition, every room except the bathrooms have a wood-burning fireplace. All furnishings are antiques of the period, ranging from 1840-1880.

The modern kitchen is fully equipped with appliances, china, glassware, etc. and is stocked with homemade bread, homemade jam, fresh fruit, venison sausage, bacon and eggs, cereal and milk, orange juice, tea and coffee. You can use this generous stash of food at any time, not just for breakfast, and you can bring your own food from home, or from local restaurants or grocery stores.

Rosewild will sleep 5-6 people from the same family or group. When you reserve Rosewild, your party has the exclusive use of the entire house, whether you are a "party" of one or six.
